长得丑的动物不值得保护吗

圆滚滚的身形、呆萌的吃相，让大熊猫几乎成为动物园里人见人爱的明星。我们天生就容易被“好看的”动物吸引。

但环保公益人张伯驹发现，在现实中，那些“不够可爱”的物种——也就是人们常说的“丑萌”甚至“丑”的动物，往往在生态保护资源中处于弱势地位。
然而，它们对生态系统的重要性却并不比“长得好看”的动物少。

作为自然之友的总干事和月捐人，张伯驹参与环保公益已经十多年。他并不觉得自己是个“苦情英雄”，反而认为公益改变了他看待世界的方式，也让他找到了推动改变、创造价值的路径。

这些年来，他长期推动环境保护与气候变化相关的公益诉讼、政策倡导以及绿色行动。除了在自然之友的角色，他还是中国零废弃联盟的创始人之一，并曾担任联合国环境署的青年顾问。

Are ugly animals not worth protecting?

The giant panda, with its chubby figure and innocent bamboo-chewing face, easily wins hearts at the zoo. We naturally gravitate toward animals with appealing looks.

But Boju Zhang, a long-time environmental advocate, has found that species considered “ugly” are often left behind when it comes to conservation funding and attention. Yet these creatures—despite not being cute or popular—are just as vital to the balance of our ecosystems.

Boju Zhang is Director General of Friends of Nature and a committed monthly donor.
He’s been with the organization for over a decade, and never saw himself as a “suffering hero.”
Instead, he sees public interest work as something that reshaped how he views the world—and as a way to actively create impact and value.

Over the years, Zhang has led efforts in environmental public interest litigation, legislative advocacy, and empowering citizen-led green actions. Beyond his role at Friends of Nature, he co-founded the China Zero Waste Alliance and has served as a youth advisor to the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).
